I have been told that I must rebuild the original engine because a non original engine would kill the value of the car. I do appreciate all of your responses.

compression check will tell all i am sure. I will be doing that next. still, if it had healthy compression it would not be burning oil the way it does. My mechanic said he did not even need to waste the time doing a comp test after examining the engine.
