Re: 69 Toronado Quadrajet Secondaries Not Opening

Update: So I decided to go to a carburetor shop to get it rebuilt cause it died on the freeway and it seems like the guy did a good job on it ($250). With the acid bath, it looks new. Hopefully it lasts for a while cause it seems like he knows his stuff. Will send pics when I can.

Re: 69 Toronado Quadrajet Secondaries Not Opening

Here is a video of the carburetor in action. Seems like flooring it did loosen it up a bit, but it doesn’t open up completely. Is that normal? Also, the primaries stay open all the time. I tried to close them manually, but that didn’t do anything. I’m just afraid that too much air is going through t...

69 Toronado Quadrajet Secondaries Not Opening

Hey guys, so after inspecting the engine a bit more after fixing the stalling issue, I noticed that the secondaries on the carburetor do not open, even when the throttle is all the way down (I did let the car warm up). I’ve heard that there’s a lockout that prevents it from opening when it’s cold, b...

Re: 69 Toronado Stalled

The new pump is in (along with a new thermostat housing) and the car feels better than ever! Thank you guys for helping me make it road-worthy again! (Next stop: new battery!)

Re: 69 Toronado Stalled

It very well could be the altitude but I would expect it to run rough or gradually work itself up to a stall. what's the difference in elevation from where you started to where you are? Who knows how much it';s been driven or what the state of all the ignition components are/were when you bought it...

Re: 69 Toronado Stalled

I just ordered a new fuel pump at Napa, so hopefully this solves the issue. I’ll give an update once it’s installed and tested. Fingers crossed!

Re: 69 Toronado Stalled

If it will start on ether then it’s not electrical. It has to be a fuel issue. With the air filter off work the throttle and look down the carb. See if there is a squirt of fuel. If not, pull the fuel line off the carb and put the end into a coffee can. Have someone turn the engine over and observe...

Re: 69 Toronado Stalled

Yeah sorry, the "budge" part didn't say much. The car cranks and starts (with starter fluid), but immediately after it shuts off. The main issue is that it does not idle anymore. In terms of the altitude, it was 1,309 ft at the bottom of the mountain. Now that I am around Big Bear, the ele...
