Re: is there a "rear end gear" 1969 Toronado
the Toro rear end is referred to as the 'final drive' and is available in 3 ratios, the 66-7 used 3.21's in 68 -70 it was raised to 3.07, then in 71 a 2.73 was introduced as an option to the 3.07 one would loose a bit of performance but gaining some economy it was used 71-78 with both 455 and 403. A...

Re: Torsion bars and spings
.............. I hate struts with a passion pa-tooey, yuk, that's one thing Chrysler had over Henry and the General was their torsion bar suspensions. The selection of bars was enormous as was their rear spring rates. Add stiff sway bars with a great set of tires and traction bar it was like riding ...

Re: Torsion bars and spings
........the twist is the direction that carries the load, visualize this sitting in the driver seat facing forward, the bars are inboard of the wheel/tire the rear of the bar is figuratively 'parked' in the adjuster /cross-arm at '0' load, (give the shock extension) lowering the car down from a rais...

Re: Torsion bars and spings
I agree the front torsion bars are that of greenish gray / grayish green. However keep in mind one has no idea what has been done to a car 46 plus years hence I would very much inclined to compare / verify the rear spring colors with others before painting. Case in point some time ago there was a di...

Re: Fuel Filter? Where the Heck is it?
Don't laugh that big barrel in/on the front of the carb where the fuel line connects held/holds a small cylindrical pores brass/copper filter 1/2" or so in diameter and 3/4 " long with a light spring that kept it seated but could /would be over ridden if the filter became clogged. later th...

Re: Torsion bars and spings
Well as it is i have two sets one from a 69 the other a 67 they appear to be identical though I have not miced either of the them. The 66 had the best suspension over all, the 67 up Olds started tweaking with both front and back suspension to reduce the so called harshness, which (in MHO is a big pa...

Re: Torsion bars and spings
Here are photos of the rear springs, one can clearly see the darker gray where the rubber isolators cover the springs and the faded gray that covers the rest of the spring body. One can also see the rust in and around areas where paint/coating has been chipped. The pins (bottom) locate position at t...
