Long time Olds guy, first time Toro owner (maybe)

Postby olznut » Wed Nov 20, 2013 6:50 pm

This is my first post here but I'm a lifetime Olds guy with my '66 442 that I've had since high school. I'm looking at a '67 Toro that a friend of mine that I've known since high school picked up for cheap and is trying to flip with no success so I might pick it up. My question is what trouble areas should I look for on this car? I'm going to look at it on Friday.

Pay very close attention to the frame, that is difficult and expensive to fix.

I did check out the car and some things just didn't add up so I walked. I glanced at the frame, it was in a tight area and I couldn't really stick my head under, I thought there was some scaling around the rear part of the frame, in front of the rear spring mount if it makes sense. Headlight didn't go up, I found a few vacuum lines just hanging around. It looks good from 20' away and runs great, it's the correct motor and heads. I also found it weird that even with the seat all the way back, the steering wheel was pretty much still in my belly.

With regards to the steering wheel in your belly, I'm a big guy, too, and I discovered a little known fact with Gen I Toronados with my 1970 Toro GT -- with the strato seats, you can undo the four bolts that hold down the seat and there is an alternate set of holes right from the factory, in the bottom of the seat "legs", that allow you to move the seat back an inch or two.
Made my ride so much more comfortable for me.

I thought I saw a few holes in the seat bracket. I still might get the thing if the price keeps coming down.
