1966 Toronado - New Member

Postby awalgrunt6 » Fri Jul 10, 2015 8:42 pm

Hi all, I have recently bought a 1966 Toronado from a guy in Illinois. It's currently about to go into the shop for a complete wiring harness overhaul and to get the vacuum line system re connected as it was disconnected when i bought it. It's a standard model with the 425. 95,000 original miles. As a 16 year old, it was not the most practical car to restore as parts are expensive, but I have a lot to lean and this is just the place to do so. I also bought a parts car from the same guy with a lot of good parts on it including a complete engine and all trim pieces. I will be selling some parts off of the car to fund my restoration. Thanks in advance for all the help. Joe

I remember that car. Were you trying to sell it a while back?

It looks like the body is pretty straight. Good for you.

I guess you decided to go all in and hang on to it? It's a great car and worth keeping. Don't feel like you have to make everything perfect all at once.

Get it running and drivable and put a blanket over the seats. Repair and replace things as you go along and have the time and money. That way the project doesn't overwhelm you.

Yeah it was for sale and that reminded me to take down the ads on here. I was almost completely out of money as I couldn't get any hours at work, but I now am getting 85 hours a week to be able to pay for the car and I hope to get it driving by the end of august. Its going to a custom shop next week for the following

Finishing the Wiring
Replacing and reinstalling all vacuum components
Full Fluid Flush (Coolant, Oil, Gas, Tranny, Etc)
Slight work on distributor
Replacement of the nylon timing chain
and that should be it on this first trip to the shop

That's excellent. Looks like you're getting the important things done. I should do my timing gear and chain too.

How many miles are on yours? Mine has 140K miles. I'm told that the nylon doesn't necessarily fail solely due to miles but also with age. It'll flake off and plug the oil pump.

That's a smart move.
