Forum dies ?

Postby roland » Mon Mar 07, 2022 12:05 am

What is the problem with us? There are nearly thousand Toronado Owner registered in the association but nothing to read about them here. Also not every Toronado owner is registered, but could have a voice here. Were are they all? No problems with the car anymore? No nice pictures to show or tales to tell? It´s not only a TOA problem, seems the internet going death with forums!

Last week I went first time to facebook. I don´t want that really, but a friend told me the meetings are there now. I have no idea why, but it seems he was right. Whow - not only one Toronado group there - and every group is full of live. Daily news and pictures and nice folks there.
My impress, FB is good for talking at the moment, but no way to look at good articles 2 or 3 years ago. You cannot search for special problems or posts.
Many names are known and they are members of TOA - they should write here. Its sad and a shame.

Roland,

I do agree it is a shame that this forum does not have more activity & more members. Yes many folks from here are also on the 2 or 3 FB groups as am I. You are right the FB groups are "at the moment" & it is easy to comment, like, post a picture or just read someone else post quickly. I don't have a solution & I am part of the problem, because my build has stalled. I always bite off more than I can chew. I am doing 4 different builds at the same time + running my transport service & now will be getting married again in July. I for one will make an attempt to post a little more. I think if the ball starts rolling slowly it may continue to gain speed....Hopefully :D

By the way, there is a search tab in most FB groups to help you find info on certain topics. It is generally a picture of a magnifying glass.

God Bless
Bill

Hi Roland.

I'm right there with you. I don't like FB because it isn't readily searchable by topic and the constant scrolling every time a new post is made is tiresome. You can't go back and find the same thread a few hours later, let alone a few days.

Every once in a while there is a flurry of activity here but then it dies down.

I've been on this forum for about 8 years or so and it's been this way the entire time.

Wow, after all these months, I never knew about the Toronado groups on Facebook until now! I just checked, and yes, it appears that they're a lot more active compared to the forum. I rarely use Facebook (mainly for just looking at cars for sale for fun), but now there's another reason to use it!

I just discovered the Oldsmobile Toronado fb page and found the guy who bought my burned out car. His '66 was stolen and crashed into a dumpster.

He's going to be using the front fenders, valance panel, radiator support, hood, bumper, etc.

Haha I'm not going to abandon this forum, I'm still going to be active on it, I haven't really posted much lately with school getting in the way. I'll just be on more than one site now :D

I'll stick with the forums. I'm not much a contributor here, but prefer this so much over joining FB. Not gonna do it...wouldn't be prudent...

I hate chasing a conversation and scrolling... Why make them richer? I get all I want/need here.

Amen. Scrolling and no search function sucks.
