I posted this in another thread but this seems like the most appropriate place for it.

Here are the part numbers for the shocks for the '66 Toro and the prices from Rock Auto.

Front - KYB - KG4501 - $26.79
Rear Vertical - Gabriel - 82040 - $20.79
Rear Horizontal - Gabriel - 82139 - $20.79
Steering Damper - Gabriel - 14010 - $15.47

That's good to know. I bought all mine from Rock Auto and they didn't carry the Gabriels for the front so I bought the KYB. So far I'm pleased with all of them.

I suspect the ride is a lot firmer with these modern gas shocks than it would be if I used Fusick's original style hydraulic shocks.

Of course compared to my '56 Cadillac everything is a lot firmer.

Gabriel is/has discontinuing these shocks (Ken at Gabriel said "they're not flying off the shelf"). Yesterday I managed to source all 7 shocks for '66 Toro, only to be informed this morning by one supplier that the 82139 shocks are no longer available.

Does anyone on TOA know of another shock that cross references 82139, &/or work for the rear horizontals?

Thanks in advance.

Mark

Somewhere on this forum I think I posted the specifications of those shocks and listed some that were similar.

If I recall, the other potential candidates were for Spitfires or VWs or other small cars.

I've had good luck cross referencing parts at NAPA. Not online but at one of the stores where they can look up parts with all the specs and compare them with each other.

Call back Gabriel and ask for the application list for the 82139. Then look up those vehicles and see what other shocks are offered by KYB or Monroe.

The 82139 is not spec'd for the Toronado. It's just one I found that meets the extended and compressed length of the Toro shock.
