Sending Unit
I was wondering if anyone here knows what material is used on the contact on my 1970 fuel tank sender. There is a thin strip that is spot-welded to the take up pipe inside the unit. It has a faint yellowish tint--could it be some type of brass? The spring contact on one side of the float rides on this strip and I need to fashion something similar. Any advice would be appreciated.

I bought a whole new unit. Stainless steel for my 67. Might fit yours?

Re: Sending Unit
I know there are slight differences between each year sending units for the first gen vehicles, I was just hoping to be able to fix a VERY clean one I currently have available. I'm pretty sure that the resistor side (windings) is the key and that the other side is just a contact but I wasn't sure. I was thinking of using a longitudinal section of thin brass tube I have available. There is a fine texture to the original though and I think that may be just to keep the float from bouncing around. The smooth tubing may not work for that reason. Anyway, any input would be appreciated.
Where did you find a compatible unit? Is it a 0-90 ohm?
Thanks

Did you get your sending unit from Fusick? Just curious where yo got it. I probably will have to replace mine. The strap on mine was also broken.

Re: Sending Unit
Got it on ebay. Stainless steel, works great. For the filter I took long nose pliers, ripped out the filter pieces, and put a new sock on the inlet tube. You probably will have to leave part of the old sock there.
