Hi folks,
as I am proceeding more unpleasant surprises occur...
As I had to change my torn CV boots I realized that my shafts have that rare ( I heard it was a one year only..) inner boots with a steel reinforcement that is of round shape instead of the '67 with triangular shape.
After tearing the shafts apart and cleaning the parts the next mess came over me, the one piece left shaft is bent. I realized that when I had it in the lathe for cleaning. The middle of the shaft is about 0.35mm ( 0.137") out of the middle line, which is a lot in my opinion. The two piece right shaft seems to be perfect.
I tried to get the shaft straight by putting it under a hydraulic press but the steel is very elastic and returns to its original shape even after bending it for more than 5mm (0,2") in the other direction. So anybody here with some experience if that bent is tolerable? Interesting point is I don't see any damage to the frame, control arms that could explain that the car was in an accident.
And what replacement (universal) CV boot will fit the inner CV joints? I didn't find anything up to now.
And for those interested... some pics of the drive train in situ

I have forgotten; Did you drive it before you took it apart?
If so, did it vibrate?
I know there are many things that can contribute to vibration but that might provide a clue.
Is there a spec for runout on the shaft?

I'd buy a new one and mot worry about using the old one.
I'm curious why you painted the engine grey on such a detailed restoration? It looks really nice by the way.
