is there a "rear end gear" 1969 Toronado
Hey guys! Just wondering is there a what would have been called a rear end gear? I mean it's front wheel drive but I feel you understand the question! And can you change it? And I've been haveing a lot of arguments on carbs for my Toro.. Id like to change it to a holly... But there are arguments on going Manuel secondary and vacuume secondary and hight clearence... What are your experiences with this on your Toro? Thanks for all the help guys!!!

the Toro rear end is referred to as the 'final drive' and is available in 3 ratios, the 66-7 used 3.21's
in 68 -70 it was raised to 3.07, then in 71 a 2.73 was introduced as an option to the 3.07 one would loose a bit of performance but gaining some economy it was used 71-78 with both 455 and 403.
As for carburation the 66-70 were pretty tight under the hood it very much a dealers choice.

A properly-set-up Q-Jet will make the Holley carb look sick in terms of driveability and fuel economy, and it'll do it without giving up any power.
It is somewhat more difficult to set-up the Q-jet, mostly because the Q-Jet is way more sophisticated than the Holley.

- Years Owned: My first Toronado was a 1968 W-34 with the bucket seats and center console... (weeps gently) It was a New England rustbucket in 1982 after less than 14 years. So sad. But it is what infected me and before I knew it I had another '68, a '69, a '70 and eventually inherited a friend's '67 and another friends '73. After buying my brand new Grand Prix in 1988 I retired the last of my Toronados and pulled the 455 I had rebuilt along the way and put it into storage in a friend's barn where it is to this day.
In Mid September of 2010 I happened to see a repeat of the show where Jay Leno did his 66 Toronado and had an instant remission of the disease which resulted in my purchase of a 1969 in very good condition. I am now in the process of fully rehabilitating it and hope to have it on the road in the spring of 2011. - Location: Gig Harbor, WA

Personally I recommend modern throttle-body EFI if you can afford it. The ability to control timing and tune the EFI from inside the car is well worth it as is the cold start and run.
Relatively easy to install is the Atomic EFI from MSD. In my opinion it is far superior to any carb under most conditions. I know some will disagree.

I have my Fuel Injected Toronado. Life is good!
