Dual Snorkel Cold Air Intake

Postby 762 » Tue Oct 14, 2014 1:01 pm

I've been out of the loop for a while, but I'm back and wanted to share a couple of pics from my current project; a dual snorkel cold air intake for my 1966 Toronado.

Apologies in advance for the crappy cell phone pics... better ones will follow as time permits.

I had the carb replaced with an MSD Atomic EFI (Thanks to xgecko for helping me get it tuned).

Vacuum chamber and headlight cylinders were removed and replaced with electronic actuators from a Ford probe, which freed up a lot of space in the engine compartment for the intake tubes.

I replaced the origional air cleaner with a dual air intake plenum from Spectre

the 120deg angle of the inlets is just enough to slip past the breather cap on my valve cover and it sits low enough that it doesn't collide with the hood when closed even after adding a 1/4" spacer between the TBI and the plenum.

The plenum inlets are 4", but to clear the valve covers, I had to add 4" to 3" reducing couplers, which turned out to be a good thing, since 3" tubing is less expensive and easier to run through the engine compartment.

getting the angles right was a challenge, but managed to complete the run on the right side where it terminates in front of the wheel well. Next step is to relocate the battery to the trunk so I can finish the left side.

This came out nicely.

I wanted to ask, how hard was it to convert the headlight actuators to electric ones?
My guy who works on my car said any electric relays and actuators from any car that had electric pop up head lights will work, is it true?
