horns location

Postby Hwy78Cruiser » Wed May 05, 2021 10:52 am

The horns I have do not have the same bracket configuration as the 1966 Product Description Manual, and for the life of me I can't figure out where to mount them (see attached pics). Maybe I'm missing a bracket, maybe I have the wrong horns.

Could anyone describe or better yet take a picture of how and where their '66 Toro horns are mounted?

Thanks in advance.

I'll take a picture for you tomorrow. They're behind the bumper and virtually inaccessible without the bumper or grill removed. They aren't symmetrical or mirror images of each other either. The mounting bracket is clocked differently on each one in relation to the wire connector tang.

I had to slide the phone through the slit in the bumper, just above the license plate and shoot blind.

Anyway, the first three pics are the passenger side horn.

Your bracket looks like it will orient the horn vertically instead of horizontally. It's obviously different from the ones on my car or the ones in the diagram. If it fits, go with it.

Based on my photos, is the horn in your hand the driver side horn? The bracket appears to be oriented relative to the connector the same way as mine.

Here's a better pic of the passenger side horn mounting. Clearly your brackets are bent in such a way as to preclude mounting your horns as this one is or as shown in the manual.

I just looked more closely at your horn compared to mine and see that it's a completely different design and shape. Notice where the screws join the two halves.

This is VERY helpful Otto, thank you. I think I may have the horns from another vehicle. Hence I will go "back into the boxes" my Dad packed many years ago. His gift of the "1966 Toro assembly puzzle" continues :-]
