front bumper installation

I am piecing together the '66 Toro my late Dad took apart and now I am working to finish. I have the manuals, but...

Seems like almost everything I have installed I have had to remove and install a second (sometimes third) time because I overlooked something that needed to go on first. (An exception was the rear bumper, slid right on, everything looks right, so far).

Hoping/looking for tips in front bumper installation. She's quite a beast, and down low to the ground, I'd like to not have to struggle too much. Can I put on the center section first, then put on the side pillows, etc. etc.?

Any guidance you can provide will be greatly appreciated!!

Mark

Put the bumper together without the two brackets. Reinstall the brackets on the frame, but leave them loose so that the brackets tilt forward/down. This allows room for you to bolt the bumper to the brackets. Then tilt the whole assembly up to where it fits the front fenders and tighten up the bracket bolts.

Many thanks Marty, that makes sense. Once ski season is over I'll do it.

Always nice to report back a success borne out of TOA assistance, ... I might well have given up on this project without key pieces of info TOA members have offered me along my "journey".

Marty/Willynut1959: here is a picture of my front bumper and grill on and straight. Your advice made installation relatively easy!

Do you have the headlight splash shields that protect the headlamps when the headlight doors are closed? I can't tell from the photo. Most cars seem to be missing them.

You had to install the direction markers before bumper mounted to body. Nearly no chance to fit em properly after that. RH top gap between bumper and fender seems not in line.
