I am trying to decide when to replace my horizontal shocks and it would help to know if anyone has done this and if they noticed any real difference. The primary purpose of these shocks is to control certain axle movements and it is not clear to me how much of an impact this has and how long the shocks last. I am inclined to replace them just on principle, but when I do so will be impacted by what I think I will get out of it.

If anyone can tell me what their experience was I would appreciate it.

Well, I ordered a pair when they were still available at fusick, but I haven't put them in yet. Knew they were hard tofind, so I grabbes them when I had the chance.

I just decided to buy them now too. You reminded me that Fusick may not have them much longer, at least at the price they show now. I think I will delay installing them so I can benchmark the car as it is then install them with no other changes and see what happens.

Can't decide whether or not I should replace the vert. shocks first; they may still be decent enough and I want to test the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks I bought for the front first before I decide to drop another $76 per shock for the rear.

I'll report back anything I do when I do it...

I am curious if anyone has come up with a definitive answer on rear horizontal shocks for '66. Talking with Gabriel and Monroe technical staff, Monroe has a "shock" that fits, but both Monroe and Gabriel warned me that, mounted in a near-horizontal position, there is a possibility that the fluid will leak out. I have the originals or OEMs which are not leaking, and one can get new rubber mounting bushings from Summit Racing (p/n 404702) for $1.99/ea and I may just got that way, as the shocks do not seem to have much travel or impact on suspension (???).

Alternately, KYB offer a model KG3198 that looks to fit, but I can not find out if it is suitable for the horizontal duty of these shocks.

Anyone have any experience on new horizontal shocks, good, bad, or otherwise?
