My radiator broke...

I was going about replacing all the 40 year old hoses on my cooling system... didn't want to spring a leak on the road and burn out my engine... Aaaannddd... I broke it.
While removing the hose between the tank-heater and the inlet ontop of the engine, I accidently broke the tapout on the bottom of the radiator that feeds it. This is also where the bleeder is located. So, I need a new radiator.
How can I tell if I have a 3, or 4 line radiator? Does it make a diifference when it comes to replacing it? Can you even find a 4-line anymore? I've been digging around for one (If I didn't have one, I'd like the upgrade) and I can't find one just yet.
I've got the 7-blade fan, which I know is one of the things that indicates a 4-line, but I don't know if having that makes it absolute or not.

Ouch. That is not good. One option you might consider is to see if a local radiator shop can repair it.
I recently recored my radiator with a moderately high performance core. Can't remember what the line count was, but I do know it was the optimal solution and it cost me about $600.
I then got my second car which turned out to have been recored already with the same brand but a lower performance core.
My search is for the mounts, if anyone knows where they can be found I would love to know.
Good luck, Twilight, and I sure hope you find a reasonable solution soon.

I'm just gonna get one from o'reily's. $200, 3-line, copper. Will replace it later if need be. I'm.not going to have mine repaired, the thing just disintigrated, it can't be in good enough shape to salvage.

You found on on Oreilly's? What is the Part Number? I searched in the past and could never find one that fits. How did you manage it?

I typed in radiator under my 66 toronado.

Hmmm. Did they have smaller radiators than the 68-69? Mine is 34" between the tanks, the one you show is about 28"... Have you measured the one in your car to see if it matches up?
I do see that it is listed as being compatible with 66-67, so perhaps they do use smaller units. They do not list anything for my car or I would have probably considered it given the $400 difference... although I did get a higher capacity core that will handle higher horsepower limits so it may not really matter.

No, I didn't check, but I did just order one. Their site says it will fit, if not, I bring it back it kind of stands to reason '66/67 would be smaller though, we have those popup headlights, and the massive vacuum tanks that I don't think are in your 69.
We'll see....

Yeah, I did that with an oil pan at Autozone. The listing claimed it fit but I was really skeptical and I was vindicated when it did not have the relief for the driveshaft. It is certainly possible that your radiator is indeed smaller, if so you will be in good shape and if not you can simply return it to your local store with no shipping. Gotta love that!

66 is 34 in wide
