All,
When purchased, my '67 had non-functioning tail, turn and brake lights. We tested the problem as being in the turn signal switch. Believe it or not, I found and purchased a column on E-Bay with what I was told was a functional turn signal switch. Swapped the column because we cannot figure out how to disassemble the sleeve to get to the switch, and all lights were working for about a year. Then the brake lights failed again. We've tested it again and found to be the problem once again in the switch.
I have two questions for anyone that might know:
1. Does anyone have any tips to disassemble the column to allow removal of the turn signal switch? According to the original shop manual there was a specialty tool, like a spreader, required to crank out the top sleeve allowing access to the switch. Of course that tool is no longer available as far as I know.
2. As far as the switch since we've had 2 that have failed now, we are thinking about purchasing an aftermarket switch for a '67 without cornering lights even though mine has cornering lights and tilt steering. The thought being that potentially it will work for everything but the cornering lights. Does anyone have knowledge regarding whether this might be a solution? (The switch with no cornering lights is still available).
Thanks much!

Re: More '67 Turn Signal Switch Problems
I have a 66 with cornering lamps and tilt. I replaced the switch about 10 years ago, found an NOS one. I recall that the swich was some type of stationary switch mounted piggy back on the column and the turns signal lever itself activated a cable that attached to the switch. Maybe they changed the design in 67 but on my 1966 I didn't need any special tools, just a LOT of money for that damned switch! I think It cost me over $150 10 years ago.
But heck at least my cornering lamps work again as I have owned the car since 1983 and until 10 years ago the cornering lamps never worked as the car had the incorrect TS switch and they were disconnected! Great cars, but a pain in the neck to find parts for and they don't seem to like to stay fixed very long.. SOMETHING is always breaking or going out of adjustment!

Thanks for your response PRT. From what I know (which is little) the 66 and 67 switches and columns are different. Yes you are absolutely right about something always breaking. I am frustrated to no end that this is my 2nd switch to go out, I think I spent at least $200 on the column that had a switch that worked for a while anyway.

Re: More '67 Turn Signal Switch Problems
Im not sure what exactly is wrong with your switch BUT if the plastic housing isn't cracked or broken you CAN take these switches apart you know. THey come apart fairly easily and sometimes all they need is cleaning of contacts, a little silicone grease and your good to go!

Thanks much for that advice PR1. Still have to figure out how to get the column apart, but once we do we'll see if we can troubleshoot the switch.

Re: More '67 Turn Signal Switch Problems
Hi,
I have replaced the turn signal switch a couple of times in a T&T column. There are 2 big challenges. 1. Removing the collar. The collar is pressed onto the column. To remove it you need to get a slide hammer and attach a three jaw puller. Set the puller so the jaws are pointing outward. Hook the jaws under the rolled lip. Use the slide hammers' impact to knock the collar loose. If you don't have these tools most auto parts stores will rent or lend them to you.
2. Removing the "C" clip. The holds the BIG spring in place. Get a buddy and two chisels and two hammers. Place the chisel on each end of the "C" and tap lightly in unison till it slides back off the column. Caution: the spring is under enormous pressure and parts are likely to go flying!
Once you get those 2 parts off, the rest is pretty straight forward. You can call me at 651-336-5381 if you would like me to talk you through it.

Boy, talk about late responses-sorry Clyde. Thanks for your offer. My mechanic and I found the original tool for sale to take apart the column to get to the switch and at least that part of it went smooth. Thanks for your offer of assistance!

Re: More '67 Turn Signal Switch Problems
Can you share where you got the tool for the column? I'm a new owner and my right had signal doesn't work. The left hand works and I can hear the switch click to engage, but can't hear that for the right side, so I'm assuming that it is the switch.
Thanks

Re: More '67 Turn Signal Switch Problems
Steven,
Sure, we found one on E-Bay, here is the listing we found at that time:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/170848451064?ss ... 1439.l2649
Apparently this one was a Moore Tools J-22598; maybe you can focus your search on that.
Best of luck!
