Howdy, looking to buy a few fuel tank socks for the 1970 Toronado sending unit.
Any information or source would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Carmen.

You can still get them from GM, just need the modern part #. That is where I got mine... I don't remember where I got the number orriginally though...

You know, I thought I tried that with the original part # a few years back and they said they couldn't find it listed and had no cross reference. Maybe I'll try to dig into another newer parts book and see if it's listed there under a different number. In the meantime, if you happen to find the number, please let me know. Thanks.

Ah, i found my original info... It doesn't list the 70 specifically though I imagine it is the same...
The original part number for a '66 Toro in-tank gauge filter is 5651292. This is the same part used on all 400 engine '66 F-85 models, and all '66 full sized cars with air conditioning. This is a different number than used in the '67 Toronado.
By 1983, that 5651292 filter changed to a 5651711. The new number applied to:
'65-'66 all 400, 425 eng. with a/c, exc. Toro
'66 Toro
'67 Toro
'68-'69 400 eng.
'70 F-85, Cutlass & Supreme with 2bbl and a/c, exc. SW
'70 442
'70 F-85 & Cutlass with Outside Air Induction.
5651711 is still available from your friendly, local GM dealer, with limited stock in Memphis and Fontana, CA. Should sell for around $20.

...aaaand lucky me, the 1970 is different.

The original part number is 5651422--mounts differently.
Thanks for looking, Carmen

I may need one of these for my '69 which I would think would be the same as '68 and '70 - I hope. I assume you are talking about the fuel gauge sender assembly? If so, any tips as to where to get it would be nice; I am dropping the tank again this weekend as the guage is not reading properly. I know it is electrically operating as it pulls down from past full when the wire is connected, but it reads empty even when full.
I should add that my fuel sender assembly is a fairly non-descript cylinder that drops in from the center of the tank. It has the fuel line coming out and heading across the top of the tank to the passenger side front corner of the tank. A small... doh!

a small sock hangs off the bottom. That is what you guys are talking about, not the entire assembly. Oh well. If anyone knows where to get the full assembly it would be nice...
