My transmission on my 69 has a tag that reads 69 OM 1787. The number stamped in it matches the vin of the car. I was reading a thread about 1970 GT's and it said if the transmission has "OM" and it matches the vin of the car it has the W34/GT option. Does the "OM" designation mean the same thing on a 69?

Yes it does! I would like to know more about the car in the way of pictures and body plate information. This now ads to the number 69 w34's known to have or still do exist.

I will work on getting some more pics. Would the block have the same vin# on it? Am I correct that the w34 should have the "C" casting heads?

I have been looking at some forums about olds engine numbers. The only numbers I can find are on a little flat piece right under the #1 cylinder. 20651 is stamped on it. From what I have read there should be six numbers for the vin plus a bunch of other numbers and letters telling you the year, where it was made etc... I know this isn't the original engine for my car but I was wanting to see if it was the original for my brothers 70 gt. Are the five numbers vin #'s? Why are their so few numbers?

Oooo ... not good, but as long as you know this motor is not original, its a non issue, other than it is no longer a complete W34. The surface was ground, wiping out most of the original VIN though some remnants are still visible then stamping an arbitrary number, its anyone's guess as to why or what it might mean.
The boss as it should look as shown below with role stamp with division 3, year 9, plant M followed by a 6 then the 5 digit sequence: sorry its a bit fuzzy and large but you get the idea. Factory mill marks are visible as well.
BTW Your brothers 70 should read 30M6xxxxx in 71 the '6' changed to a '7'

I just checked the 69 W34 database; Your car fits exactly were it should with its numbers in the rotation, it is unfortunate that motor is not original.
