Years Owned: 1967 Toronado Deluxe - owned this car since 1995 and am the second owner. Sadly it was cosmetically gorgeous but mechanically and electrically a mess when I got it. It was a feature car at the 1997 Olds Centennial but still wasn't running right then until Sparky Kalkhoff and I swapped out the wrong cam for the correct original. Everything electrical was repaired over the years until the point where the cosmetics became a mess. It's now undergoing its second restoration with lots of new metal to address years of rot courtesy of its Northeast PA roots.

Hey guys - getting in on this a bit late but since I'm in the middle of restoring my '67, now's the time to do the drum to disc conversion too. I have some additional questions:

- Do we know what years of Toro and Eldo spindles will work such that my '67 wheel bearings can be reused, or did all years use the same bearings? I may have a line on a '73 Eldo's knuckles for cheap, thus the question.
- I recall someone out there has a line on rechroming Toro (and Eldo) wheels - so if you find the ugly black disc rims, this guy can pop the centers out and chrome them. "Somebody the Toro Guy" as I recall. Anyone know who I mean?
- Anyone think to use the donor car's proportioning valve, or should I go new as suggested above?

Thanks in advance!

Far as I know, you're much better off to use the wheel bearings from the '73. Cheaper and far better availability.

Can't help there.

Front disc brakes need THREE devices, not "just" a proportioning valve. The three devices are best taken from your donor vehicle in the form of the COMBINATION VALVE. The Combination valve contains a proportioning valve for the rear brakes, a hold-off (metering) valve for the front brakes, and a safety switch that turns on the warning light on the instrument cluster if one side of the dual-circuit hydraulic system fails.

To my knowledge, the "NEW" OEM-style brake valves are poorly-made and have become known as a high-failure item. First Guess: Chinese knock-offs sold under a familiar American brand name. New proportioning valves of the adjustable aftermarket "racing" style are probably high-quality, but then you still have to find a hold-off valve, and re-use your safety switch. (Be careful with ANY new brake parts, the Communists and their American collaborators have infected the entire industry with bottom-feeder garbage)

When I converted MY '66, I took EVERYTHING from my '72 donor car. Worst part of the conversion was bending new brake tubing to convert the '66 single-circuit hydraulic system to the '67-newer dual-circuit style. That should already be done on your '67.

I'm fairly certain that your old drum-brake bearings are incompatible with the disc brake knuckles, you'll want to get some new ones.

There is someone in The Mall section sellibg a full set of chromed wheels for ludicrously cheep, i'd pock those up wee I you..
