Nothing wrong with points. period.
I just like to have options, and after owning a pre-AMF Harley I never want to change or LOOK at another set of points again.
Anyone used the Mallory E-Spark conversion kit?

Don't judge points based on that example. Yikes.
A well set up vehicle with a fully charged battery, properly working generator, voltage regulator, and condenser will ensure you get good long service from your points. I haven't looked at the points in the Cadillac for about 7 years and I just drove it 500 miles to Tampa at Christmas.
Have you considered the HEI conversion of your existing dizzy? It keeps the factory look and avoids the bright red Mallory cap or the bright yellow and orange Pertonix parts.

I picked up the Pertronix 1181 kit, Did you have to remove the distributor when you installed yours??

I still have points and am going to keep them. Just for another 50 years or so...

- Years Owned: 1967 Toronado Deluxe - owned this car since 1995 and am the second owner. Sadly it was cosmetically gorgeous but mechanically and electrically a mess when I got it. It was a feature car at the 1997 Olds Centennial but still wasn't running right then until Sparky Kalkhoff and I swapped out the wrong cam for the correct original. Everything electrical was repaired over the years until the point where the cosmetics became a mess. It's now undergoing its second restoration with lots of new metal to address years of rot courtesy of its Northeast PA roots.

In '95 shortly after buying my '67, my wife and I were in the process of moving from PA to NC and drove the car there. Somewhere south of Richmond VA on I-95, the condenser in the distributor decided to short out. After fumbling around diagnosing the problem and getting car rolling again the next day, i decided I was done with points/condensers. I've had a Pertronix module in the distributor ever since and in my current rebuild, have upped it to a Pertronix billet distributor. I've been very pleased with their products and reliability. If you're down on points, I'd highly recommend the Pertronix set-up.
