Work and other things are keeping me behind schedule on this project, but I still need to start thinking about getting the motor pulled and rebuilt. The grille and front bumper are already off the car. Would it make things easier if I removed the front fenders? Curious as to what you guys have done in your cars. I have an engine crane already, as well as a plate that will bolt to the intake manifold. It has worked great for me in the past, but all I have used it on were small block Fords. Will this big block be too heavy for using the intake lift plate? I don't want to strip the threads and can use a chain if needed.

I can't answer your question about the engine because I've never done it. Have you removed the heater core by chance? Is your car ac or not? I need to know if the hood has to be removed to pull the heater core on a non-ac car. Manual says you have to take the hood off for an ac equipped Toro but is silent on a non ac one.

Hi Otto - my car is an A/C car and I have not touched my heater core. But that's probably something I should consider adding to the long list of to-do's.

Yesterday I finally had a little time to wrench on El Toro. It is time to pull the motor and get the rebuild going. The girls and I drained the oil and coolant, removed the fan shroud and radiator ( damn it is a HUGE rad ), and unbolted the power steering pump and A/C compressor. Everything on this car is heavy. Also started disconnecting and labeling lots of wiring. And damn - there are a LOT of vacuum lines on this baby. Looks like I will be buying a spool of hose.

Not it a ton of progress but hopefully the motor will be ready to pull tomorrow evening. If I could just find my engine stand...

I'm sure you've taken dozens of photos of every possible thing from every possible angle. They will make a dramatic difference when it comes time to hook up all the hoses and route them correctly.

Yep Otto - photos and lots of bagging and tagging of items. I think a lot of my vacuum lines have been monkeyed with so I plan to rely on pics of other nice engine bays and shop manuals for that.

I can't wait to get the motor out and to the shop. I was told the turnaround time will only be about a month. Hopefully that will be enough time to clean and detail under the hood, and swap in a '67 style brake booster and dual master cylinder.

I think you need a different distribution block from a '67, too. Best to check with someone who knows for sure, though. I think the proportioning is different between the disc cars and the drum cars.

I'm staying with 4 wheel drums - just switching to a '67 style dual MC and matching booster. Do you think other parts will need changed? I will look into that.

Oh, right. I'm not sure. Somebody on this forum has done it before so hopefully they'll chime in.
