Rebuilding Gen 4 Struts

Postby Hoog » Sun Sep 22, 2024 12:36 pm

Does anyone have any recommendations for new strut jounce bumpers and boots for 90-92 Toronado? I have the strut unmounted and disassembled but the bumper seems to be absent (whomever replaced the struts last time omitted replacing the part  ) and the boot long since disintegrated. OReilly has a strut boot that is a universal that can work, but I still need a suitable strut jounce bumper. I'm using Monroe 71854 to replace the old strut. I have the new upper strut mount kit, but again, I need the jounce bumper.

So ... Rock Auto says there's an aftermarket kit MEVOTECH MP63622. This led me to doing some digging and it seems like that same kit is used on a Chevy Impala. So ... I searched AC Delco and came up with this Monroe Strut-Mate 63622 Suspension Strut Bumper and Bellows Kit for Chevrolet Impala. I just ordered it at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C59MMK ... I will post my results soon (I hope!)

So, it looks like Monroe Strutmate 63622 boot will work on the rebuilt strut, and you can modify / cut down by an inch a Dorman 523-237 Jounce bumper to work. I'll post photos when it is back together.
