steering shaft u-joint

Postby 1970w34 » Sun Oct 06, 2013 3:56 pm

I am working on the steering shaft u-joint and noticed that the rubber "boots" are decomposed though the joint is rock solid. Is there a way to remove the joint without destroying it? I'd like to paint the yokes and reboot the joint if that's possible. There are snap rings I've already removed but am having no luck getting the "Spicer USA" caps off. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Turns out that it comes as an assembly--the U-joint and the two yokes--GM part number 391496.

Used on first and second gen Toronado's.

So, back to my salvage pile to find one with good boots :D
