I threw away that nasty chain case cover and put a coat of POR15 on the cover.
Now my questions are:
What is your preferred goop for the sealing surface of the pan and gasket?
How much fluid is actually in there with the chain?

David, Certainly don't use that cork gasket on the chain cover. It might work
on the pan, which has an adequate contact surface all around. I'd love to here
the story of why the chain cover has such a narrow strip just where it matters,
at the bottom. I typically use some of that hardening "make a gasket" kind of
stuff; you might ask Manny what he uses for his GMC transmissions. His TH425s
work well in cars too.

The TH400 has 12 qts of fluid, 2/3s of that in the torque converter. The TH425
